In the Spotlight: Hajj Memoirs - “Don’t Spoil Your Hajj!”
by Zeeshan Mahmood
“Don’t spoil your Hajj by getting impatient or harming another Muslim!” – These are the words I kept saying to myself while performing Hajj. I kept reminding myself that I am the guest of Allah and that He has chosen me to perform Hajj whereas countless others have not had this great opportunity. I kept reminding myself of the sins I have committed and of the infinite mercy of Allah Who has blessed me with this opportunity despite the fact that I have transgressed the limits set by Him time and time again. I kept reminding myself that if I am patient, some of my sins will get wiped away with every difficulty. I kept reminding myself of the Last Prophet’s (SA) words: “(The performance of) 'Umra is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise.” (Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA) and reported in Sahih Bukhari) (More)
Eid Al-Adha: A Symbol Of Obedience
by Gyasi Abu Umar Mckinzie
Eid Al-Adha is preceded by the glorious day of `Arafah and is one of the important days of Hajj. Among the main themes and messages of Hajj is submission and obedience to Allah. When we read about the remarkable stories of Prophet Ibrahim, Prophet Isma`il, and Hajar, we witness extraordinary examples of obedience and submission to Allah, which is the core meaning of Islam. Actually, submission is the very meaning of the word "Islam". So the meaning and essence of Islam are manifested in Hajj, which reminds us of our mission and purpose in life.
Eid Al-Adha is a symbol of obedience…

Did You Know?
Did you know that there is a kind of kufr (disbelief) that is obligatory on every Muslim?
Yes, there is. In fact, one can not be a Muslim without commiting this act of disbelief. It is the disbelief that Allah refers to in the Verse:
"[H]e who disbelieves in the Taghoot (powers of evil) and believes in God has indeed taken hold of a support most unfailing, which shall never give way." - [2:256]
It is a condition for a person's acceptance of Islam that he or she disbelieves in everything that is worshipped besides Allaah. This is the essence of a Muslim's testimony of faith: Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, meaning: "There is nothing worthy of worship except Allah."

Getting the Best out of Al-Hajj (Pilgrimage)
by Zeeshan Mahmood
Abu Muneer Ismail Davids is an active Da'ee (one who invites people to the Truth), conducting classes and giving lectures on various subjects to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Since performing his obligatory Hajj in 1989, he has developed a deep desire to share his experiences and knowledge with other pilgrims in any way he can. (More)
Hadith:
When the Prophet (pbuh) was asked by his wife Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) whether women are also supposed to perform Jihad or not he replied saying, “Yes the Jihad they have to do is a Jihad without fighting; it is Hajj and Umrah.”
[reported in Ahmad and Ibn Majah ]
Quranic Verse:
The pilgrimage shall take place in the months appointed for it. And whoever undertakes the pilgrimage in those [months] shall, while on pilgrimage, abstain from lewd speech, from all wicked conduct, and from quarrelling; and whatever good you may do, God is aware of it.
And make provision for yourselves - but, verily, the best of all provisions is God-consciousness: remain, then, conscious of Me, O you who are endowed with insight!
-- [2:197]
Interpretation: Literally, "in the well-known months". Since the hajj culminates in one particular month (namely, Dhul Hejja), the plural apparently refers to its annual recurrence. It should, however, be noted that some commentators understand it as referring to the last three months of the lunar year.
